This course introduces attendees to the Research & Development Tax Credit under IRC § 41. Attendees will learn the history and evolution of the R&D Tax Credit since its inception in 1981. Attendees will further learn how to identify qualifying activities under the Four-Part Test as well as the types of qualified research expenses. Examples of developmental life cycles and case studies will be presented. Calculation methodologies will be presented for both income tax and payroll tax claims. The impact of IRC § 174 as well as changes to the Form 6765 will be covered.

Meghan Norton is a Senior Director of Business Development at Source Advisors. Meghan began her career in Big Four public accounting, spending much of those ten years consulting on tax credits and business incentives. She has spent her career assisting clients with identifying permanent cash tax savings and refund opportunities, considering the impact of deductions and credits on effective tax rates, and applying established methodologies and processes to complex areas of taxation to ensure consistency year over year. Moving from tax technical to business development and to smaller advisory firms; Meghan's focus is building relationships with businesses and CPA’s, identifying and understanding clients unique tax opportunities and challenges and enabling the optimization of various incentive opportunities to enhance cash flow. Meghan is a CPA and holds a BS in Managerial Economics and Accounting and Master’s in taxation from Bentley University.
