CFO Panel Discussion and Afternoon Social

Please join us for our CFO Panel Discussion and Afternoon Social on Tuesday, May 9 at The Bellevue Club. Our May educational meeting is sponsored by Berntson Porter and will be moderated by Stuart O'Farrell of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. Panelists will include Chief Financial Officers Cheri Briar of VECA Electric Company, Joseph Hagar of McKinstry, and Berger Dodge from Lease Crutcher Lewis.

As a Chief Financial Officer at VECA, Cheri Briar has experience building tax and accounting processes from the ground up--her career has thrived on the boom and bust cycles in construction and real estate industries. Cheri brings the financial perspective to the table by evaluating risk and taking a proactive approach to best practices that ensure the business operates from a position of abundance, and by implementing financial systems that integrate quickly and efficiently into the project workflow.

Over his 15-year tenure with McKinstry, Joseph Hagar has been involved with many of the company’s functions. After a career that took him from a “Big Four” accounting firm to the high-tech industry to the apparel business, Joseph arrived at McKinstry in 2002. As Chief Financial Officer, he currently manages McKinstry’s overall finances and accounting. He’s also responsible for complex negotiations, exposure management, and other leadership functions.

Berger Dodge
joined Lease Crutcher Lewis as chief financial officer at the Seattle headquarters at the beginning of 2015. He holds a bachelor's degree from Boston University, and an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Washington. Berger has 18 years of finance experience, including five years as CFO at Todd Shipyards and three years as senior vice president of finance at Vigor Industrial.

Some of the topics to be discussed by the panelists include:

  • Labor markets – is there still a shortage of qualified labor? What are you doing to address this issue?
  • What types of technology have you recently implemented, or do you plan on implementing in the future? What do you hope this improves?
  • What keeps you up at night?
  • What effect, if any, do you see the political landscape in the United States having on your business?
  • What protocol have you put into place to protect yourself from cyber crime--primarily fraudulent wire transfer requests?
  • Revenue recognition
  • Subcontractor default Insurance
Registration for the event is from 2:15 to 3:00 pm
